CBN yet to unravel mystery over N100m fraud

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Central Disciplinary Committee, is till wading through fictious of applications used to transfer over N100 million out of the country three months after it was first discovered.
According to our sources, the Central Bank Disciplinary Committee, whose sittings have been adjourned, disclosed that new discoveries were made after the initial one.
According to the source some of the applications were very faint and the actual amount could not be determined.
The source further disclosed that companies and pensions in whose names the applications were made have testified before the CBN central disciplinary committee.
Meanwhile, most of the applications had no supporting documents which further makes the committee’s job most difficult.

As of now about 39 staffers of the bank have had their appointments terminated for offences ranging from fraud, stealing and absenteeism.
According to the source 54 others were absolved with the cases pending.
Also, five staffers of managerial position are to lose seniority for 3 years for their involvement.
According to sources the CBN executive director has put his feet on the ground on issues involving fraud, theft and indiscipline in the bank.
The executive director, The Republic gathered is said to insist on summary dismissal of any staff found involved in any of the prevailing ills at the bank.
According to him any staff found guilty must have his appointment terminated.
As a result of this new development sanitary is said to be returning to staffers of the bank.
As at the time of going to the press, the CBN CDC’s report on Jos branch was still being awaited by the bank management.
From the committee’s intimacy it is scheduled to visit Kano branch to hear the case of a messenger who is till alleged is a perpetual absentee from his duty post.
